Vestel, NY – The University of Maine baseball team began their 2023 America East Tournament run with a win over #5 UMass Lowell, 10-7.

First Inning: Fritz Genther got the River Hawks on the board first as he singled home a run.

Nick White answered for the Black Bears in the bottom of the frame as he hit a double down the left field line, bringing home

Third Inning: Genther added two more runs to his total on the day as he hit a home run to left field.

Noah Lewis was called on for the Black Bears in relief.
Colin Fitzgerald went 2 and 2/3 innings in the start, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits, 1 walk and striking out 3.

Quinn McDaniel answered in the bottom of the third as he hit his 15
th home run of the season, this one being a solo shot to right field.

Three batters later,
Nick White put the Black Bears back in front with his third home run of the season, a two-run shot to right field.

Fourth Inning: UMass Lowell scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning, one of which was unearned.

Matt McElwain put the Black Bears back in front for good as he hit a no-doubt home run to left field, scoring

Jeremiah Jenkins began adding on some insurance runs for the Black Bears as he singled home a pair of runs in the form of

Jake Rainess (BB).

Seventh Inning: Trey Brown hit a solo home run in the seventh frame for the River Hawks, making it a 9-7 game.

Justin Baeyens was called on to pick up the save in the ninth inning for Maine.
Noah Lewis was strong out of the bullpen as he allowed 4 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts across 5 and 1/3 innings of relief.
