CHATTANOOGA, TN -- The University of Maine softball team defeated the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, 5-4, in the weekend finale.
 
The Black Bears took a one run lead in the bottom of the first inning. Grace McGouldrick scored on a Kelby Drews single. Chattanooga evened the game in their half of the first inning.
 
Immy Gie broke up the tie game with an RBI single in the top of the fourth inning. The lead was short lived as UTC pushed three across in the bottom half of the fourth.
 
Maine was able to tie the early season contest with two runs in the top of the fifth. Jasmine Gray ripped an RBI single before Krista Franci touched home on a wild pitch.
 
In the top of the seventh inning, Madison Hand came around to score on an error. It was the final run of the game as Caitlyn Fallon closed out the game for her third win of the year.
 
Notes:

• Alysen Rieth allowed one run and struck out four over 3.1 innings before being relieved by Caitlyn Fallon (3-2), who went the rest of the way, struck out two, and walked only one.
• Grace McGouldrick, Immy Gie, Kelby Drews, and Jasmine Gray all recorded a hit in the victory, while Gie, Drews, and Gray drove in the runs.

 
Next: The Black Bears will return to the diamond tomorrow, March 3 at the University of Missouri. First pitch in Stillwater, Oklahoma is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
