
Softball Scores 18 Runs in Doubleheader Sweep over Stonehill College

NORTH EASTON, Mass. -- The University of Maine softball team defeated the Stonehill College Skyhawks, 9-0 and 9-4, in both ends of the doubleheader.
Game One: University of Maine - 9 Stonehill College - 0
Mariah Pearson drove in the first run of the game with a single to shortstop. Katie Jo Moery came around to score on the knock. Maine was far from done.
The Black Bears exploded for seven runs in the top of the third inning. Jasmine Gray and Moery each tallied RBI singles. Krista Francia earned an RBI on a fielder's choice before Immy Gie blasted a three-run home run. After three innings, Maine held a 8-0 lead.
Moery's sacrifice fly was the final run of game number one as the Black Bears won 9-0.
Notes:
Anna Margetis got the scoring started in a hurry with a solo shot in the top of the first inning. Madison Hand and Kyrah Haba-Dailey both tallied RBI in the top of the second. After two innings, Maine held a 3-0 lead.
Margetis drove in another run with a single in the top of the fourth. Gabby Papushka tallied an RBI with a sacrifice fly. Nora Campo capped off the rally with a two run single. Maine held a 7-0 after four.
Stonehill scored their lone run of the day with a fielder's choice. Campo answered the Sky Hawk's rally with a two run single in the top of the sixth. The Black Bears were looking at a 9-1 advantage going into the bottom of the sixth inning.
In order to avoid the run rule, Stonehill needed to score one run in the sixth. They did one better and scored. A sacrifice and single to short extended the game one more inning.
