Men's Basketball Falls to Duquesne

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The University of Maine men's basketball team fell at Duquesne by the score of 87-73 on Saturday afternoon at the A.J. Palumbo Center. Maine falls to 2-5 on the year while Duquesne improves to 4-3. The Black Bears were led by Justin Edwards (Whitby, Ontario) who had 19 points and eight assists.

Duquesne took a 25-19 lead midway through the first half, but the Black Bears would score the next six points courtesy of a Jon Mesghna (Frankfurt, Germany) free throw, Edwards three-pointer and Till Gloger (Bochum, Germany) layup.
The teams went back-and forth the rest of the way and were knotted at 37 at intermission.
Alasdair Fraser (Falkirk, Scotland) and Edwards each had 10 points in the first stanza to lead the Black Bears.

Duquesne took a 61-56 edge midway into the second half, but Edwards scored five-straight points to tie the game at 61 with 9:47 left.

The Dukes answered and grinded out a 74-67 lead with 4:30 left, but Zarko Valjarevic (Belgrade, Serbia) made a three from the corner and an Edwards free throw made it a three-point game.

However, Duquesne went on a 7-to-2 run with a minute remaining to push the game just out of reach of the Black Bears.

Fraer finished with 14 points and eight rebounds while Xavier Pollard added 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
