ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine men's basketball team had six players in double figures as the Black Bears cruised to a 97-42 win over Fisher on Thursday evening in the Memorial Gym. Maine is now 3-5 on the year while Fisher falls to 4-5. Alasdair Fraser (Falkirk, Scotland) led the way for Maine with his second double-double of the season of 13 points, 14 rebounds and four assists.
Maine controlled the game from the start, taking a 21-4 lead to open the game courtesy of seven points from Xavier Pollard (Bronx, N.Y.).
Fisher cut into the lead a little bit to make it 23-10 with 8:33 left in the first half, but Maine finished the opening stanza on a 23-to-7 run to take a 46-17 lead into intermission.
Pollard had 10 points to lead the scoring and Fraser added seven points, eight rebounds, three assists and two blocks.
Maine shot 65.5 percent from the field while holding Fisher to 20.6 percent. The Black Bears outrebounded the Falcons 25-12.
The Falcons tried to chip away in the second half and got within 52-28 three minutes into the second half.
However, Maine clamped down on defense and went on a 29-to-6 run that featured five Black Bear dunks to make it 81-34 with 5:42 left to eliminate any comeback bid by the Falcons.
Pollard finished with 14 points, while the other players in double-figures were: Till Gloger (Bochum, Germany) with 12 points and four rebounds, Justin Edwards (Whitby, Ontario) with 14 points, Zarko Valjarevic (Belgrade, Serbia) with 13 points and Stefan Micovic (Pondov, Serbia) with 10 points.
Maine had a season-high nine dunks in the contest as the Black Bears shot 62.9 percent from the field while holding Fisher to 23.2 percent.
Fraser was named Maine's America East Player of the Game.
Sam Nwadike had eight points, four rebounds and three steals to lead the Falcons.
The Black Bears continue play on Sunday at defending Atlantic Coast Conference champion Florida State.
