WEST POINT, N.Y. – The University of Maine men's basketball team fell at hot-shooting Army by the score of 96-67 on Friday night at Christl Arena in West Point, N.Y. Maine falls to 3-7 on the season while Army goes to 5-5. Justin Edwards (Whitby, Ontario) led Maine with 18 points.
Maine took a quick 8-3 lead, but three Army three-pointers gave the Black Knights a 12-8 lead with 16:43 left in the first half. They increased the lead to 22-15 but Maine closed the gap to 24-22 on a Jon Mesghna (Frankfurt, Germany) three-pointer from the corner.
The Black Knights finished the first half on a 30-to-six run and took a 54-28 lead at half as they shot 62.5 percent from the field.
Mesghna had nine points to lead Maine in the first half.
The Black Bears continued to try to chip into the lead in the second half, but Army responded every time the Black Bears cut into the lead.
Army shot 55.9 percent for the game, including 48.1 percent from long range, while Maine shot 40.9 percent.
Army was led by Kyle Wilson who had 18 points.
Maine continues play Sunday at Marist.
