Construction Progressing At Alfond Arena
ORONO, Maine -- Construction is progressing at Alfond Arena this summer. All renovations are needed upgrades to improve the Arena voted with the 'Best Atmosphere is College Hockey' by the Wall Street Journal last winter.
The ice was removed and the concrete dug up to install a new surface beneath the ice. The surface is now being replaced and concrete is being poured. A new chilling system is also being installed.
Construction that fans are going to notice more is the replacement of all seats in the lower bowl. In addition, new boards and glass will be installed the summer prior to the beginning of the season.
Maine opens the 2011–2012 season on Sunday, Oct. 2 with an exhibition game against New Brunswick. The puck drops on the regular season when the Black Bears host 2011 Hockey East quarterfinal foe Merrimack on Friday, Oct. 7 at 7 PM.
Alfond Arena sections will all be relettered this year. Season tickets are available for Maine hockey by calling the Black Bears ticket office at 207-581-BEAR or 1-800-756-TEAM. Actual seats will not be issued at this time as construction is still in progress. The deadline for season ticket renewals is July 18.
