Caren Fiorillo is in her second season as an assistant coach of the University of Maine women's basketball program. She assists head coach Cindy Blodgett coach the guards while also assisting in recruiting. Caren is in charge of the team travel arrangements and helps visiting teams coordinate their travel plans to Orono. Fiorillo comes to Orono after spending three seasons as an assistant coach at Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, N.C.
"Caren has a solid understanding of what it takes to build a program, and will help provide the energy, passion and work ethic that is crucial as we continue to grow as a program here at Maine," Blodgett said. "Caren has extensive recruiting experience, and has shown the ability to build strong and sincere relationships that foster successful recruiting and community building."
At Lees-McRae, Fiorillo was in charge of recruiting, film exchange and the creation of scouting reports for the program. In addition to those duties, she was also directly involved in player development for the Lady Bobcats.
Prior to her arrival at Lees-McRae, Fiorillo had the opportunity to learn under Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman while serving as an intern for her 2006 summer basketball camps. While working for the Lieberman summer camps, Fiorillo had been placed in charge of marketing and directing camps in the Dallas, Phoenix, and Detroit areas.
Fiorillo was a member of the Flagler College women's basketball program in St. Augustine, Fla., and graduated from the school in 2006 with a bachelor's of arts degree in sport management and a minor in business. Fiorillo has also been heavily involved in community service projects throughout her playing and coaching career. She has taken part in events with the Boys and Girls Club of McKinney, Texas, as well as the YMCA Little Dribblers of St Augustine.
"I'm really excited for the opportunity to join the University of Maine women's basketball program," Fiorillo said. "The program is definitely headed in the right direction under Coach Blodgett, and I look forward to helping her build the program into what she believes it will become
