Black Bears Victorious Over Vermont, 4-3

Burlington, Vermont – The University of Maine women's ice hockey team skated to a 4-3 win over Vermont on Saturday afternoon at the Gutterson Fieldhouse. Brianne Kilgour (Hamilton, Ontario) led the Black Bears to victory as she registered two goals and one assist. With the win, the Black Bears improve to 5-19-3, 2-12-2 in Hockey East while the Catamounts fall to 7-17-3, 5-8-3 in Hockey East.

Vermont got on the board early as Emily Walsh was able to sneak the puck by the Black Bear goalie for the power play goal at 1:36 into the first period.

The Black Bears would go on to score four unanswered goals to end the first period with a 4-1 lead.

Kilgour answered back 31 seconds later to knot the game at 1-1. Kilgour picked up her fifth goal of the season on the even strength score. Audra Richards (Maplewood, Minnesota) and Kelly McDonald (Ancaster, Ontario) each tallied their fifth assist of the season.

Kilgour gave Maine the 2-1 lead 5:18 of the first period in the unassisted short-handed goal. This marks her second of the game and her sixth of the season.

Brooklyn Langlois (Steinbach, Manitoba) extended the Black Bear lead at 7:56 of the first period as she took a slap shot from the top of the offensive zone. Langlois registered her first career goal as a Black Bear on the even strength score. Brittney Huneke (Hastings, Minnesota) registered her third assist of the season while Richards notched her sixth.

Richards tallied the final goal of the period at 9:21 into the first period. This marks her seventh goal of the season. Kilgour and Langlois registered assists on the even strength goal. It marks Kilgour's fourth assist while Langlois tallied her fourth.

Dayna Colang registered the only goal of the second period at 9:20 to cut the Black Bear lead to two.

Sarah Campbell brought the score to 4-3 as she beat the Black Bear goalie for the power play goal at 8:46 of the third period.

Brittany Ott (St. Clair Shores, Michigan) got the start for the Black Bears between the pipes as she allowed three goals while notching 37 saves. Ott sees her record improve to 5-12-3 on the season.

The Catamounts held a 40-30 shot advantage over the Black Bears.

Maine returns to action tomorrow afternoon as it competes against Vermont for game two action at 2:00 PM. Maine returns home next weekend for a two game series as it plays host to Northeastern for a two game series on February 16 and 17. Both games are slated to begin at 2:00 PM.
