Black Bear Close 2012 Season, Earn Playoff Berth
Orono, Maine -- The University of Maine women's soccer team wrapped up the 2012-13 regular season with a 3-3 tie against Albany. Prior to the game, Maine honored its two seniors who were playing their final game at home. With the tie, the Black Bears move to 7-6-3 while the Danes see their record at 5-10-2.
Nikki Misener (Burlington, Ontario) got Maine on the board early with an unassisted goal as she got her own rebound off the goalie to take a 1-0 lead just 5:37 into the game. Charlene Achille (Longueuil, Quebec) gave the Black Bears a 2-0 lead at 33:54. Joanie L'Abbe (Laval, Quebec) started the scoring play with a corner kick from the left side, Misener would then tap the ball to Achille as she found the top right side of the net.
Casey Marks cut the Black Bear lead to one at 53:22 as she found the back of the net on the Krista Fitzpatrick assist. Albany wasted little time as they tied the game at 2-2 just 55 seconds later on an unassisted break-away goal by Shayla Bergeron.
Maine answered back 33 seconds with Alex Abrahams (Oakville, Ontario) finding the back of the net off the nicely placed pass from the right side by Eve L'Abbe (Laval, Quebec).
Chelsea DeVerna tied it at 3-3 just 11 seconds later as Shayla Bergeron picked up the assist.
Meagan Price-Leibenzeder (Surrey, British Columbia) saw her record move to 1-2-1 on the season after the 3-3 tie. Price-Leibenzeder allowed three goals with eight saves in 110 minutes of play.
Alana Brennan moved to 5-7-1 as she allowed three goals with three saves.
The Danes held a 21-11 shot advantage over the Black Bears while Maine held a slight 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.
