Swimming & Diving Complete Dartmouth Invitational with Sixth Place Finishes
WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt. -- The University of Maine swimming and diving teams each placed sixth in Saturday's Dartmouth Invitational final. The women took sixth place out of seven teams with a score of 191.50 while the men took sixth place at 143.
Naja Harvey (Orono, Minn.) had the top finish of the day as she placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:05.95 while finishing tenth in the 100-yard freestyle (54.23). Erica Smrcinia (North Falmouth, Mass.) finished sixth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 59.00 and took 14th in the 200-yard butterfly at 2:13.30. Abby Linn (Elkhart, Ind.) placed 15th in both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.32) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:33.98). Katie-Jean Hinckley (Prospect, Conn.) placed 15th in the 1650-freestyle (18:25.77) while Courtney Norman (Pointe-Claire, Quebec) finished 15th in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:14.71. Lauren Dwyer (Orono, Maine) finished 16th in the 100-yard butterfly at 1:01.02. On the diving board, Kara Capossela (Greenwich, Conn.) finished 14th in the one-meter with a score of 204.50.
On the men's side, Ryan Fahey (Quincy, Mass.) finished eighth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:00.60) and 17th in the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.64). David Vittori (South Berwick, Maine) finished 11th in the 1650-freestyle at 17:28.60. Brent Williams (Clifton, Maine) took home 12th in the 1650-freestyle and 18th in the 400-yard IM (4:33.85). Caleb Hoffman (Waterville, Maine) finished 14th in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:17.79) and 15th 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.34). Shane Kinnon (Malden, Mass.) finished 14th in the 100-yard backstroke at 56.42 and 20th in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:04.95.
In the women's relays, Taylor Sharp (Burlington, Ontario), Harvey, Smrcinia and Emily Puleio (Saco, Maine) took home fourth place in the 200-yard medley relay at 1:50.24. Carmen Linden (Ottawa, Ontario), Kara Dubiel (Carefree, Ariz.), Norman and Tayler Bayer (Portage, Ind.) finished ninth in the 400-yard freestyle relay at 3:44.91.
On the men's side, Jon Davis (Collierville, Tenn.), Robbie Bickford (Milford, Maine), Fahey and Vittori teamed up to take eighth place in the 400-yard freestyle at 3:21.20. Matt England (Bangor, Maine), Hoffman, Eric Gaulin (Northport, Maine) and Kinnon matched up to finished tenth in the 200-yard medley relay at 1:41.09.
The women's squad returns to action on Feb. 1 at New Hampshire at 5 PM before both teams take part in this year's America East Championships, hosted by UMaine, beginning Feb. 14.
